Wizard School Word War

All the coolest kids at the wizarding academy are dueling their friends after school. The only problem: no one studied the spellbook, and no one knows what their magic will do before they do it. 

Can you still win without knowing what your spells will do? What kind of attack is "parallel?" What sort of defensive spell is "avant-garde" or "aisle?" What happens if you cast the healing spells "tropical" or "version?" Is "rugby" a hex or an enchantment?
